To convey realitey – not exactly as it appears, but as it feels.

This is perhaps the simplest way to describe Gunn Astrids artistic voice.

Shaped by the surrounding landscape and the environments we create as human beings, her work grows from a deep urge to express – to question, to provoke, to move. She finds inspiration in the human lives and connections, in objects and spaces, and in a natural world that is constantly shifting. Each brushstroke, each line, carries an emotional resonance – of joy, unease, longing, and hope.

Gunn Astrid works primarly with printmaking, though painting remains an essential part of her artistic practice. Her style is bold and expressive. In her graphic works, she often explores mixed media – combining ink, printing ink, and acrylic – and works with techniques such as monotype, linocut, and woodcut.

She studied at The New School / Parsons School of Design in New York, where she earned her Bachelor of Fine Arts degree. She lived there for nearly five years before returning to Norway to continue her work. Over the years, she has also built a long career as a freelance graphic designer and illustrator.

Her works has been supported by grants from the Cultural Industry Foundation, SpareBank1 Nord-Norge, and the Norwegian Industrial and Regional Development Fund (SND) in Skien.

Since the early 1990s, Gunn A has devoted herself to art. She has exhibited in Porsgrunn, where she lived for many years, as well as in Oslo and in Tromsø, where she now makes her home.
